GRP Composite Doors — Fully Fitted From £1,100
We supply and fit GRP composite doors across Derby, Nottingham, Leicester and the wider Midlands. Our GRP doors are manufactured by HomeFrame — part of the GAP group — and come fully fitted from £1,100 including VAT, with no hidden costs.
Like all of our composite doors, every GRP installation is handled personally by Jim and Josh. No subcontractors, no salespeople — just a fixed price over email and a professional fit.

What Is a GRP Composite Door?
GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Plastic — the tough outer skin that gives these doors their strength and weather resistance. A GRP composite door is built from several materials bonded together: a polyurethane foam insulating core, a reinforced inner frame, and that durable GRP skin on the outside that mimics the look and feel of real timber grain.
The result is a door that won’t rot like wood, won’t flex or discolour like uPVC, and won’t need repainting or varnishing. GRP composite doors have become the most popular type of composite door in the UK, and for good reason — they offer excellent security, thermal performance and kerb appeal at a price point that suits most homeowners.
For a broader overview of how composite doors are constructed and why they outperform traditional alternatives, see our main composite doors page.
Why We Chose HomeFrame
We supply HomeFrame GRP composite doors, manufactured in Knowsley, Merseyside by GAP — a company with over 30 years of experience producing entrance doors in the UK. We chose HomeFrame for the same reason we chose Rockdoor as our premium brand: build quality, security credentials and reliable lead times.
HomeFrame doors use a Rehau 72mm outer frame profile with steel box reinforcement, a high-density polyurethane foam core, and a laminated veneer lumber (LVL) sub-frame — all wrapped in a 2mm SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) woodgrain skin. Every door comes fitted with a PAS 24 compliant 5-point multipoint locking system and a BSi 3-star Kitemarked cylinder as standard — meaning the lock alone meets the police-recommended Secured by Design standard for resisting snapping, bumping and drilling.
If you want to understand how this compares to our premium range, read our guide on Rockdoor features and technical specifications.
GRP Composite Door Construction
A HomeFrame GRP composite door is made from several layers bonded together into a single 44mm thick slab:
2mm SMC outer skin — Both faces of the door are covered in a 2mm Sheet Moulding Compound (SMC) skin with a realistic woodgrain texture. SMC is a glass-fibre reinforced material that’s completely weatherproof — it won’t fade, crack, peel or need repainting. A wipe with soapy water and a soft cloth is all the maintenance it needs.
Polyurethane foam core — A high-density CFC-free polyurethane foam fills the centre of the door slab, providing excellent thermal insulation. Solid panel door styles achieve U-values as low as 1.0 W/m²K, while glazed styles typically achieve 1.2–1.3 W/m²K depending on the glass area and threshold type. Both comfortably meet current Building Regulations.
LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) sub-frame — Rather than a simple timber stile, HomeFrame uses an engineered LVL sub-frame within the door slab. This is stronger and more dimensionally stable than solid timber, resisting the bowing and warping that can affect cheaper doors over time.
PVC edging — A PVC edge banding seals the perimeter of the slab, protecting the core from moisture ingress.
Rehau 72mm outer frame — The door hangs within a Rehau 72mm thermally efficient outer frame with steel box reinforcement. Rehau profiles are widely considered among the best in the industry — the same brand used by Rockdoor and other premium manufacturers. A 52mm outer frame option is also available where a slimmer profile is needed.

Security Features
Security is the reason most people choose a composite door over uPVC, and every GRP door we fit comes with serious protection as standard.
5-point multipoint locking system — The lock engages at five separate points along the door edge, distributing force across the full height of the frame rather than relying on a single latch. This is PAS 24 compliant, meaning it meets the enhanced security standard recommended by police and required by Building Regulations for new builds.
3-star cylinder lock — The cylinder is the part most vulnerable to attack. Our GRP doors come with a BSi 3-star Kitemarked cylinder as standard — Secured by Design approved and Sold Secure approved. It features a patented anti-bump timing pin system, hardened steel anti-drill pins, anti-pick pins and a sacrificial snap line on the outside only, meaning the lock remains operational even if an attacker breaks the external section. It also comes with Bio keys that have antibacterial and antiviral properties. If you want to understand the differences between premium cylinders, see our comparison of the best door cylinder locks — Ultion vs Avocet vs Yale.
Anti-drill, anti-pick and anti-bump protection — All built into the standard 3-star cylinder, not an optional extra. The cylinder can still be opened from the inside even if it’s being attacked from the outside — an important safety feature.
Robust frame construction — The Rehau 72mm outer frame with steel box reinforcement and the 44mm slab make forced entry extremely difficult. Unlike uPVC panel doors, a GRP composite door cannot be flexed or levered open easily.
Hardware endurance — The lever handles are endurance tested to over 200,000 cycles and the hinges to 100,000 operations, with load testing to 100kg on three hinges. All furniture meets BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 corrosion resistance (480–500 hours salt spray). The stainless steel bar handles are 316 grade — the same marine-grade steel used in coastal environments — salt spray tested to 2,000 hours.
For homeowners who want the highest level of composite door security available, we also install Rockdoor composite doors. Want to add even more protection? Consider upgrading to laminated glass, which holds together on impact rather than shattering — especially recommended for composite back doors where most break-ins occur.
Energy Efficiency
GRP composite doors are significantly more energy-efficient than older uPVC or timber doors. According to the HomeFrame technical data, solid-panel and small-glazed door styles (such as Rome, Athens, Turin, Milan, Amsterdam, Helsinki, Oslo and Porto) achieve a U-value of 1.0 W/m²K, while larger glazed styles (such as Tuscany, Madeira and Cannes 3) achieve 1.2–1.3 W/m²K depending on the threshold and glazing configuration.
To put that in context, current Building Regulations require external doors to achieve a U-value of 1.8 W/m²K or better — so even the most heavily glazed HomeFrame door comfortably exceeds the minimum standard. The combination of a polyurethane foam-insulated core, Rehau thermally broken frame, double-glazed sealed units and high-quality weatherseals all contribute to reduced heat loss and lower energy bills.
If you’re replacing a composite front door or back door, the improvement in draught proofing alone can make a noticeable difference to how your home feels in winter.
Door Styles and Colours
Our HomeFrame GRP composite doors are available in over 40 door styles across three collections — Classic (traditional panelled designs like Rome, Athens and Cannes), Contemporary (modern vertical moulding details like Turin, Milan and Amsterdam) and Modern (clean lines with sleek glazing cassettes like Lisbon, Madrid and Valencia).
Whether you want a cottage-style front door with decorative glass, a half-glazed traditional design or a clean modern slab, there’s a configuration to suit most homes.
All doors are made to measure within a maximum door sash (leaf) size of 910mm × 2109mm — the overall dimensions will be larger once the outer frame is added. With the standard Rehau 72mm frame, add 112mm to the width (56mm each side) and 56mm to the top, plus the threshold depth, to calculate the full structural opening required. We’ll handle all of this when we quote — just send us a photo and your rough opening measurements and we’ll do the rest.

Colours: HomeFrame doors are available in 30 door colours, including popular choices like Anthracite Grey (RAL 7016), Black (RAL 9005), Chartwell Green (BS 14C35) and Duck Egg Blue (NCS 2020B), as well as bolder options like Clementine (RAL 2000), Aubergine (RAL 4007), Sweet Pink (RAL 3015) and Canary Yellow (RAL 1018). The outer frame is available in five colours — White, Anthracite Grey, Black, Rosewood and Light Oak — all with a white internal finish.
Glass designs: A wide selection of decorative glass designs, obscure patterns and privacy glass options are available. You can browse the options using our online door designer to visualise how your chosen combination will look.
Hardware: Choose from lever handles, pad handles, or contemporary bar handles (available in 600mm and 1200mm, both inline and offset). Bar handles are made from 1.5mm 316 grade stainless steel with a 32mm diameter, salt spray tested to 2,000 hours. Hardware finishes include chrome, graphite, gold, black, white, stainless, brass, nickel and antique black. A TS008-accredited letterplate option is also available for enhanced security.

If your budget allows, a Rockdoor is the better door in every measurable area — thicker slab, stronger reinforcement, more advanced glass security and a wider choice of premium designs. We install both, so we’re not saying that to upsell you. It’s just what we see after fitting over 2,000 doors. But for the majority of homeowners, a GRP composite door delivers outstanding value and more than enough security and performance for a typical UK home. Most of our customers who choose GRP are delighted with the result — and many tell us they can’t believe the difference compared to their old uPVC door.

GRP Frequently Asked Questions
What does GRP stand for?
GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Plastic. It’s the tough, weatherproof outer skin used on composite doors. GRP gives the door its realistic timber grain appearance while being completely resistant to rain, frost, UV and temperature changes. Unlike real wood, it won’t rot, warp or need repainting.
What is a GRP composite door made from?
A GRP composite door is made from multiple materials bonded together: a 2mm SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) outer skin with woodgrain texture, a high-density polyurethane foam insulating core, an LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) sub-frame for structural strength, PVC edge banding, and a Rehau 72mm thermally efficient outer frame with steel box reinforcement. This combination delivers better security, insulation and durability than any single material alone. For more detail, see our main composite doors page.
How much does a GRP composite door cost?
Our GRP composite doors start from £1,100 fully fitted including VAT, removal of your old door and all hardware. Most doors fall between £1,100 and £1,500 depending on colour, glass and handle choices. For a full breakdown, read our guide on composite door prices.
Are GRP composite doors secure?
Yes. Every GRP door we fit includes a PAS 24 compliant 5-point multipoint locking system and a BSi 3-star Kitemarked cylinder as standard — Secured by Design approved and Sold Secure approved, with anti-snap, anti-bump, anti-drill and anti-pick protection built in. This meets the enhanced security standard recommended by police and required by Building Regulations for new builds. For even higher security, consider a Rockdoor or upgrading to a premium cylinder lock.
How do GRP composite doors compare to Rockdoor?
GRP composite doors offer excellent security and energy efficiency at a lower price point (from £1,100 vs £1,500 for Rockdoor). They use a Rehau outer frame, BSi 3-star Kitemarked cylinder and achieve U-values from 1.0 W/m²K. Rockdoors add premium features like 3mm high impact skins, S-Glaze glass technology, a thicker 50mm sash and aluminium reinforcing. Both are vastly superior to uPVC. We install both and will recommend whichever best suits your priorities. See our full Rockdoor vs Solidor vs Endurance comparison for more detail.
Can I use a GRP door as a back door?
Absolutely. GRP composite doors work just as well as back doors as they do as front doors. In fact, upgrading your back door is one of the most effective security improvements you can make, since most break-ins occur through the back or side of a house. Consider adding laminated glass for extra protection.
Can I customise my GRP composite door?
Yes. Choose from 40+ door styles across three collections, 30 door colours, 5 external frame colours, a wide range of glass designs and 9 hardware finishes. Sidelights and toplights are also available.
What maintenance do GRP composite doors need?
Very little. Clean the door and frame with warm soapy water and a soft cloth occasionally. Lubricate the lock and hinges once a year. That’s it. The GRP skin won’t fade, crack or need repainting.
Do GRP composite doors come with a warranty?
Yes. All of our GRP composite doors come with the full manufacturer’s warranty from HomeFrame/GAP. Our installation work is also covered by CERTASS registration, so you receive a Building Regulations compliance certificate.
How long does fitting take?
A standard GRP composite door replacement typically takes 4–6 hours. We remove your old door, fit the new one and leave your home fully secure on the same day.
Do you offer supply-only GRP doors?
Yes. If you have your own installer or want to fit the door yourself, we can supply the door, frame and all hardware without installation. Contact us for a supply-only quote.
