Composite Back Doors — Fully Fitted Across the Midlands

Your back door is the most vulnerable entry point to your home — the majority of break-ins happen through the rear or side of a property. A composite back door is the single biggest security upgrade you can make to the back of your house, replacing flimsy uPVC or ageing timber with a door that’s built to resist forced entry.

We offer two ranges of composite back door: GRP composite doors from £1,100 fully fitted and Rockdoor composite doors from £1,500 fully fitted — all prices including VAT, old door removal and installation by our in-house team.

We’ve fitted over 2,000 composite doors across Derby, Nottingham, Leicester and the wider Midlands since 2010. Every door is surveyed and installed by Jim and Josh — no salespeople, no subcontractors.

Two Ranges of Composite Back Doors

We supply and fit two types of composite back door across the Midlands. Both offer dramatically better security, insulation and longevity than the uPVC back doors found on most UK homes — the right choice depends on your budget and how much you want to invest in security.

Rockdoor Composite Back Doors — From £1,500 Fully Fitted

f security at the rear of your home is your top concern, Rockdoor is the strongest composite back door available in the UK. The high-density polyurethane foam core is 35% stronger than standard composite doors, with aluminium reinforcement throughout the door slab and steel-reinforced frames around the lock area — the most targeted point during a break-in.

Every Rockdoor back door features S-Glaze technology, which permanently seals the glass into the door structure during manufacturing. This eliminates the most common weak point on standard composite doors — clip-in glazing cassettes that can be prised out from the outside. For a back door that’s often out of sight and more likely to be targeted, this is a critical advantage.

Multi-point locking with a 3-star anti-snap cylinder comes as standard. Rockdoor back doors are PAS 24 accredited and Secured by Design approved.

Popular choices for back doors include solid panel designs for maximum privacy, or half-glazed styles with obscured or laminated glass for natural light without compromising security.

GRP Composite Back Doors — From £1,100 Fully Fitted

Our GRP composite back doors deliver excellent security and insulation at a more accessible price point. A foam-insulated core with GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) skins creates a door that’s significantly stronger, more thermally efficient and more durable than the uPVC back doors fitted to most UK homes.

Every GRP back door we install comes with multi-point locking, a high-security anti-snap cylinder, reinforced uPVC frames and a 10-year guarantee. Available in a wide range of styles and colours — from solid panels for maximum privacy to half-glazed options with obscured glass.

If you’re replacing a standard uPVC back door that’s started to drop, warp or feel flimsy, a GRP composite back door is a significant step up in security, insulation and appearance.

Not Sure Which Is Right for Your Back Door?

For most homeowners, the choice comes down to budget and how exposed your back door is. If your rear entrance is hidden from view — down a side passage, behind a fence, or not overlooked by neighbours — the extra security of a Rockdoor is well worth considering. Back doors in more visible positions are less likely to be targeted, and a GRP composite door offers excellent protection at a lower cost.

Why Choose a Composite Back Door?

Your Back Door Is Your Home’s Weak Spot

Most homes in the UK still have a basic uPVC back door — thinner, lighter and far less secure than what’s fitted at the front. Burglars know this. The rear of a property is typically less visible to neighbours and passers-by, making back doors the preferred entry point. A composite back door is dramatically harder to force open than uPVC, with a thicker, heavier slab, multi-point locking and reinforced frames that resist crowbars and shoulder charges.

Better Insulation Where You Need It Most

Back doors often lead into kitchens, utility rooms or conservatories — spaces that can feel draughty and cold in winter. Composite back doors have an insulating foam core that’s significantly more thermally efficient than uPVC. The improvement in draught-proofing is noticeable immediately after installation, and many homeowners find their kitchen or back room feels warmer and more comfortable year-round.

Built to Handle Daily Wear and Tear

Back doors get more day-to-day use than front doors in most homes — kids running in and out, dogs, trips to the garden, putting bins out. Composite doors handle this heavy use far better than uPVC, which can warp, discolour and sag over time. The GRP or polymer skin won’t fade, peel or crack, and the reinforced frame stays true even after thousands of open-close cycles.

Low Maintenance and Long-Lasting

Unlike timber back doors that need regular painting or varnishing, a composite back door needs nothing more than an occasional wipe with soapy water. No sanding, no treatment, no seasonal adjustments. A well-installed composite back door will last 25 years or more — compared to 10–15 years for a typical uPVC door.

What to Consider When Choosing a Composite Back Door

Solid Panel vs Glazed

This is the biggest decision for most back doors. A solid panel with no glass offers maximum security and privacy — ideal if your back door isn’t overlooked or if security is your primary concern. Half-glazed designs let natural light into kitchens and utility rooms while still providing a solid, secure lower section. If you choose glass, we’d recommend obscured or satin privacy glass to prevent anyone seeing into your home from outside.

Laminated Glass for Extra Security

For glazed back doors, upgrading to laminated glass is one of the most worthwhile additions you can make. Laminated glass holds together when smashed rather than shattering, making it extremely difficult for an intruder to climb through. It’s a relatively small additional cost for significant extra peace of mind — especially on a back door that may not be visible from the street.

Back Door Colours

While front doors tend to make a bold statement, back doors often need to coordinate with existing windows, conservatories or garden surroundings. White, cream and light oak remain the most popular back door colours, though anthracite grey and black are increasingly common — particularly on properties with grey window frames. With Rockdoor, you can choose different colours for the inside and outside of your door.

Cat Flaps and Dog Flaps

If you need a pet flap in your composite back door, this needs to be discussed at the quotation stage. Cutting into a composite door after manufacture isn’t recommended as it can compromise the door’s structural integrity and void the warranty. We can advise on the best options for incorporating pet access into your new back door.

Stable Door Alternative

If you like the idea of opening the top half of your back door for fresh air while keeping the bottom half closed — to contain pets or young children — a composite stable door might be worth considering. Both our Rockdoor and GRP ranges include stable door options with independent top and bottom sections, each with their own locking mechanism.

Composite Back Door Prices

All our prices are fully fitted including VAT, removal of your old door, all hardware, and installation by our in-house team. No hidden extras — the price we quote is the price you pay.

GRP composite back doors start from £1,100 fully fitted. Final pricing depends on your choice of style, colour, glass design and hardware.

Rockdoor composite back doors start from £1,500 fully fitted. Additional costs depend on glass design (adds £80–£260), laminated glass upgrade, and hardware choices.

Composite back doors are generally a similar price to composite front doors, though they can sometimes work out slightly less expensive as many homeowners opt for simpler designs and solid or privacy-glazed panels rather than decorative glass.

Frequently Asked Questions About Composite Back Doors

Why should I replace my uPVC back door with composite?

uPVC back doors are thinner, lighter and far less secure than composite. Over time they warp, discolour and the locks become less effective. A composite back door is significantly thicker, heavier and more resistant to forced entry, with much better insulation and a lifespan of 25+ years compared to 10–15 for uPVC.

How secure are composite back doors?

Very. Both our Rockdoor and GRP composite back doors feature multi-point locking systems that secure the door at multiple points around the frame, plus high-security anti-snap cylinders as standard. Rockdoor back doors also feature S-Glaze sealed glazing and meet PAS 24 and Secured by Design standards. For additional security, we recommend upgrading to laminated glass.

How much does a composite back door cost?

GRP composite back doors start from £1,100 fully fitted including VAT. Rockdoor composite back doors start from £1,500 fully fitted. Final pricing depends on style, colour, glass choice and any extras like laminated glass. Read our full composite door prices guide for a detailed breakdown.

Should I choose a solid panel or glazed back door?

It depends on your priorities. A solid panel offers maximum security and privacy and is the strongest option. A half-glazed door lets natural light into your kitchen or utility room — ideal if the back of your house is dark. If you choose glass, we’d recommend obscured or satin privacy glass and consider a laminated glass upgrade for extra security.

Can I get a cat flap or dog flap in a composite back door?

Yes, only certain designs allow a cat or dog flap and it needs to be discussed at the quotation stage before the door is manufactured. Cutting into a composite door after it’s been made can compromise the structure and void the warranty. We can advise on the best options for incorporating pet access.

Are composite back doors energy efficient?

Significantly more so than uPVC. The insulating foam core, weatherproof seals and double glazing dramatically reduce heat loss and draughts. Many homeowners notice their kitchen or back room feels warmer immediately after installation. For more on the benefi

What’s the difference between a back door and a stable door?

A standard composite back door opens as one piece. A composite stable door has independently opening top and bottom halves — you can open the top for fresh air while keeping the bottom closed to contain children or pets. Stable doors are available from our Rockdoor range.

What colours are available for composite back doors?

Both ranges offer a wide selection of colours including white, cream, oak, rosewood, anthracite grey, slate grey, black, green, blue and red. With Rockdoor, you can choose different colours for the inside and outside — popular back door combinations include white internal with anthracite grey external, or oak on both sides.

What’s the lead time for a new composite back door?

Around 5 weeks from order to installation. Fitting takes a single day. Surveys are available 7 days a week to get the process started but initial quotes are given by email first.

Do you offer composite back doors supply only?

Yes. If you’re outside our installation area or have your own fitter, we supply composite back doors for delivery across mainland UK. Visit our online shop or get in touch for a supply-only quote.
