All Rockdoors come with a 3 star cylinder as standard. This 3 star accreditation ensures you have the very best lock available to protect your home and ensures that the lock can never be a weak point.
These are all anti-snap, anti-pick, anti-bump and anti-drill as usual. Their standard handles are also very thick and heavy duty which helps to prevent tampering with the lock.
All Rockdoors come with 3 keys as standard, each with their own branded purple Rockdoor key.

All Rockdoors come as standard with 2 hook locking. The 25mm throw sintered steel hooks are a robust locking mechanism that ensures forced entry is virtually impossible.
Unlike most doors which use small sectional keeps, the real strength and security on a Rockdoor comes from the one piece steel keep that runs the full length of the outer frame. We use 122mm or 142mm screws to fix a door so you have 4 screws in total that go through the steel keep, through the frame, and directly into the brick making it unbelievably secure when its locked.
The hooks are also tapered which are designed to bite into the steel keeps and squeeze the door onto the seal, further improving sound and thermal insulation, especially when it can be very very windy.
The core of a Rockdoor is made from a very high density foam called polyurethane. It sounds quite weak but when it is sandwiched between the two high impact 3mm skins, it is unbelievably strong. The polyurethane foam has quite a few advantages over other materials.
— Better thermal insulation
— Does not soak up water
— Better sound insulation
— Very strong
We get asked sometimes regarding the foam core ‘what if someone cuts through it?’. You would need a power tool to cut through it, but this is so so rare people get broken into like this and typically throwing a brick through a window would be just as effective; much quicker, much easier and probably quieter too! Rockdoor offer the option of having steel mesh inside the door which reinforces the foam and the door even further. This would prevent anyone potentially trying to cut their way through as it would take a very, very long time but generally we don't recommend this as its not worth the extra but it’s there if you want it.

All Rockdoors manufactured from June 1st 2019 come with a 10mm Aluminium box section. Every Rockdoor is made-to-measure so no matter the dimensions of your door, the aluminium box section is cut to millimetre precision and mitred into the 4 corners of the door slab, so the entire edge of the door is reinforced giving immense strength. The hinges and locking mechanisms are fixed directly into this aluminium box section which ensures they remain absolutely solid and never separate, even under extreme forces.
It was in development for a long time and to properly test it for strength, reliability, durability and security, Rockdoor commissioned their own purpose-built climate environmental testing lab, which is a steel rig that is temperature controlled so it can be extremely hot one side and extremely cold the other to mimic a Rockdoor in the sun on a summers day and vice versa. Not only that but their new rig can mimic natural climate changes, such as slow temperate increases and decreases on each side of the door during the course of a day, continuously over a long period of time.
As all Rockdoors retain the same inner reinforcing on every door no matter the width or height, they can inject a high density polyurethane foam that pushes any air out inside the door, replacing it with a thermal and sound insulating foam instead. This ensures that not a single part of the door has air inside and is completely sealed throughout. This means the glass in a Rockdoor is built into the door and cannot be removed or changed, at all. Rockdoors S-glaze technology has many advantages over a glazing cassette including:
- Better sound insulation
- Better thermal insulation
- Enhances security
- Enhances the reliability of the double glazing units
- Improves the aesthetics of the door.
The only disadvantage is that as the glass is built in, you are unable to change the glass unless you replace the whole door slab, some people get put off by this but I’ve fitted over 1,400 Rockdoors and never had a glass unit fail or mist up.
Rockdoors high impact skins are made from compressed uPVC. They are 3mm thick and extremely strong. The skin is not painted, and if scratched deep enough they do show white underneath the colour, but due to their strength they are very durable and very difficult to scratch, even by pets and of the 1,000+ Rockdoors I’ve fitted, none have been scratched deep enough to show white underneath.
The Rockdoor skins come in flat sheets which are moulded into the desired shape by using heat and an aluminium template engraved with all the grained details of the door to be made. The grain effect gives a realistic effect of having a wooden door and is one of the best looking and most durable skins I have ever come across. The grain is not too much and doesn’t give the look of a GRP skin where the grain is far too strong.

Rockdoors have excellent sound and thermal performance. When closing the door, you get a real deep thud as it closes, something you would associate with say a high end German car door. The sound insulation and proofing is incredible, it goes very quiet when the door is closed.
Thermal efficiency is very good, with all Rockdoors between an A and D energy rating. This may look bad on paper, but this is very good still. Nearly all composite door manufacturer’s don't even advertise or show energy ratings (which could say it all) so personally is not something to get too hung up on.
In the real world, you wouldn't even notice the difference between an A and a D energy rated door, and is likely to be a whole a lot better than the existing door it is replacing.
Rockdoors are often referred to as the Rolls Royce of doors. After all, they are manufactured completely different to any other door on the market which makes them very unique.
The handles, letterplate’s and hinges are robust and heavy duty, designed to last. The handles are by far the best I have seen on a composite door, they are very thick and heavy and not lightweight and thin like a lot of other composite door handles.
The same can be said for their locking mechanism, a lot of composite doors locking mechanisms can be operated with your little finger and feel a bit tinny, where as a Rockdoor locking mechanism is quite firm but smooth to operate, it gives you the feeling that this means business.
You notice this also when you shut the door, it shuts with a firm, deep thud that reassures you of how heavy, secure and how solid a Rockdoor is.
Rockdoor use German engineered 3D adjustable hinges. These give you the adjustability of:
- Up & Down (Height)
- Left & Right (Side to Side)
- In & Out (Compression)
They have huge flexibility and are highly reliable, each hinge will take a weight of 70KG and Rockdoor use 3 hinges per door. They come in Satin Silver, Gold or Black.
Unfortunately, some fitters don't know how to adjust these properly. It’s very important the hinges are adjusted properly when installed, and any future adjustments are very easily done and take seconds. We do this (FOC) when we are passing should a door ever need adjusting. It’s all part of the service we provide!
Do Rockdoor still manufacture the Elite & Select range?
No. Rockdoor stopped production of the Rockdoor Elite and the Rockdoor Select range in August 2018. Rockdoor only manufacture one type of door now, which is the Ultimate but it is now just branded Rockdoor.
Are 4 hooks available with a bar handle?
No, due to using the key to operate the hooks when you have a bar handle, 4 hooks cannot be selected as an upgrade with a bar handle. You would need a proper Lever/Lever handle for 4 hooks.
Can you get locked out with a bar handle?
Yes you can, however Rockdoor use a switch latch which allows the latch the spring back to allow the door to open, but you must remember to enable and disable this when necessary.
What happens if the glass in my Rockdoor needs replacing?
Some people are a little bit put off by the fact that if the glass fails inside a Rockdoor, you have to change the whole door sash (remove letterbox, handle, locks etc from the old sash and put them on the new sash), you can't just replace the glass like normal composite doors. Truth is, we have never ever been called out to anyone who has had faulty glass in their Rockdoor, due to the glass being completely sealed inside the Rockdoor from air and moisture, this actually helps prevent the glass from failing, and to smash the glass in a Rockdoor in itself is a very difficult thing to do.
Is a PVC-U slimline threshold better for thermals than the Low Aluminium?
Yes. However in the real world, you would not even tell the difference between them, both seal perfectly and are 100% draught proof.
What do you recommend to lubricate the locking mechanism with?
I recommend the 3-in-1 white lithium grease, spray a generous amount on the hooks, latch and shootbolt and operate them with the door open several times, repeat once more. Do not spray anything in the lock/cylinder itself.
